Rumours Swirl Around Burna Boy’s Cancelled Concert
Afrobeats star Burna Boy has left many of his Mzansi followers confused after cancelling his upcoming performance – which was slated to take place in Johannesburg, Gauteng on Saturday, 23 September – at the last minute.
The ticket sales website that had been handling part of the promotion for the gig announced that the event had been “postponed” on Tuesday, 19 September, via their official site. However, by the next day, the website had been updated to reveal that the performance has been fully cancelled.
One statement – which has subsequently been removed from the website – claimed that the show was delayed until 16 December due to poor ticket sales. However, Burna Boy – who is privately known as Damini Ogulu – has disputed the claim.
“I was in SA last year and I had 100 Thousand of the most Beautiful South Africans Outside for me [sic],” Ogulu said via Instagram stories shortly after the rumours started, referring to his headline performance at DSTV Delicious last year.
“So no dead agenda can Agend [sic]. I will see you again real soon, South Africa. I [heart] you,” he added.
The confusing and mixed messages have led to much speculation, with one publication going so far as to suggest that there had been issues with the sound team.
